Ramsar convention

It’s a convention concerning internationally important wetlands. It was signed in Iran on February 2, 1971. Until then, these areas were considered unhealthy and consequently destroyed. In reality, wetlands are of primary importance for the life of characteristic flora and fauna of this habitat. Ponds and lagoons, in fact, represent fundamental environments for migratory waterbirds. In Sardinia, there are eight areas included in the Ramsar Convention; six of these are located in the province of Oristano. They are:

  1. Stagni di Cabras e Mare ‘e Pauli
  2. Stagno di Mistras
  3. Stagno di Pauli Maiori
  4. Stagno di Sale Porcus
  5. Stagno di s’Ena Arrubia
  6. Stagni di S.Giovanni, Marceddì e Corru s’Ittiri

Turr’e Seu

The Turr’e Seu Nature Reserve was a former WWF-managed oasis. A walk through the unspoiled flora of the Mediterranean scrub is recommended.
